Why this Study Matters
Massachusetts expanded coverage of doula services through MassHealth in 2023. For the states that have also expanded access, research into the doula experience with their respective state-funded programs has revealed challenges related to provider enrollment, reimbursement rates, covered services, among other aspects of the program. While work has been done to assess Massachusetts doula's anticipated experience with the MassHealth expansion, there has not been a published assessment of their actual experience since the passage of the bill. Through surveying and interviewing MassHealth doula providers, we hope to capture the experience of enrolling and working under this new program in order to inform future Massachusetts state policy on MassHealth funded doula services.
Research Study Overview
This research study is a mixed-methods research study designed to capture both trends and deeper insights from participants. The first phase is a survey that gathers quantitative and descriptive information about your perspectives. In the second phase, we will conduct individual interviews to explore these topics in greater depth. Participants who complete the survey will have the opportunity to take part in the interview portion of the study, allowing their voices to contribute even more fully to the research!
